Connecting Canadian Start-ups to Venture Capital
The Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) has been the global materials research and development centre for Xerox Corporation since 1974. In 2013, we opened our laboratories to offer fee-for-service research and development services to third-parties through a new Client Services business. In tandem, we began to nurture an Innovation Hub, providing start-ups with access to expertise, resources, and scale-up facilities.
Connecting start-ups to the investor community
Innovation4D is an expression of this new direction and took the form of a networking event aimed at connecting start-ups to the investor community. With pitch sessions, guest speakers, tours, and networking breaks, Innovation4D demonstrated this new direction by highlighting our capabilities and our support for start-ups on their journey to commercialization.
We hired MediaOne to help us make a video that would play at the beginning of the session. It helped to set the tone for the day and focus attention.
Together with our Business Development Lead, we decided to stage an event that would fulfill both needs. Connecting startups to capital at our location would introduce and reinforce our capabilities and showcase our work with startups
Working with the Economic Development Office, I arranged a six part blog series featuring some of the startups. This was a great way to reach the local business community and site selectors.
A unique brand identity was created - Innovation4D - complete with brand assets, website, social media, collaterals
We would invite several elected officials to attend and speak. We secured The Hon. Reza Moridi, Minister of Science, Innovation and Research, Her Worship, Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of the City of Mississauga.
A blend of political, academic, business, and industry leaders would be invited.
We would partner with two recognized leaders in the ecosystem RIC Centre and GreenCentre Canada. And create sponsorship opportunities with

This initiative would also prompt my involvement in a roundtable to develop ideas for the City’s new marketing campaign. I strongly advocated for the inclusion of innovation as a major theme.
